What's Happening at Fender ®

Fender has a fantastic web site that I recommend highly (www.fender.com) for a run-down on their current amp lines. They can also send you a copy of Frontline magazine (for the textile needy) which details their entire line of guitars, basses, amps and more. I can definitely say that you need to check out their CyberTwin amp. Just when you thought the modeling amps could get no crazier Fender says “Hey, everyone wants there amp to sound like 5 different Fenders. Well who can do that better than us!” That is the tiniest tip of the iceberg of what this guy will do. Fender’s site even has sound snippets from the amp itself which I think is great. It’s well worth checking out.

Sunn guitar and bass amps.

The Prodigal Sunn is back. Fender was smart here and realized that Sunn should be it’s own creature instead of just being different variations on current Fender models. It also gave them a great opportunity to tap into markets typically dominated by others. Sunn was easily one of the most prolific amplifiers in the late 60’s and early 70’s. There weren’t many TV broadcasts of a band around that time that didn’t have someone using a Sunn. Even the P.A. as well. The Sunn guitar and bass amps of today are modern engineering tied in with tried and true tube and solid state technology and…..well….brute power! What I love about the line too is that the choices are very simple and to the point, kind of like the amps themselves. Fender for many years hadn’t covered the loud ‘n’ proud rock, metal, high-powered tube head for guitar and bass. They do now. For guitar they did have the Prosonic and Tonemaster but the Prosonic is only 60 watts and it’s 2 channel operation is limited because of shared EQ. The Tonemaster being hand wired and custom shop was financially out of reach for most working Jill’s and Joe’s. Also, importantly the Sunn’s have their own sound. They don’t come off as an extra loud Fender. They’re just another way in which Fender helps sculpt the ever changing, sonic landscape of rock ‘n’ roll.
